I didn’t need to look far to find my first subject for a Forgotten Railroads blog entry here in the Carolinas. The Landis, NC Southern Railway Depot is located at the corner of  North Chapel Street and East Ryder Ave over a 1000 feet from the Norfolk Southern mainline. The depot was moved in August of 2012 from its original location at the corner of South Main Street and East Ryder Ave to make way for a second mainline track through downtown Landis.

Back in 2012, there were plans to make this train depot into a railroad museum. Fast forward to 2019 the station sits with no steps to any of the doors and sadly it not a railroad museum as of yet. Although the depot did get some much-needed TCL once it was moved to its new location. The wooden railroad depot is over 110-years-old.

Built: 1901 and enlarged 1910
Closed: 1973
Current Railroad:  Norfolk Southern
Railroad Line: Charlotte District
Milepost: 345.6
